Europe closes higher with focus on trade, Brexit

Equities on major European stock markets finished the Wednesday's trading session in the green with the focus remaining on trade and Brexit uncertainties. German Chancellor Angela Merkel claimed there was still a chance for an orderly withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. South African Naspers Ltd. listed its spinoff Prosus N.V., which owns a 31% stake in Chinese giant Tencent Holding Ltd., on the Euronext Amsterdam.

The FTSE was 0.96% higher at the closing bell, as the London Stock Exchange Group plc jumped 6.29%. Germany's DAX rose 0.74%, with Infineon Technologies AG grew 3.09%. The CAC 40 in France gained 0.44% as STMicroelectronics​ advanced 3.73%.

The euro tumbled 0.43% against the dollar at 5:30 pm CET to $1.09956, while the pound lost 0.12% to change hands for $1.23339 at the same time.
