Europe closes higher on Brexit delay optimism

Equities on major European stock markets finished the last trading session of the week in the green amid speculation the United Kingdom may get another Brexit extension. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was expected to meet European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Luxembourg on Monday to discuss the Withdrawal Agreement. Meanwhile, the London Stock Exchange Group plc rejected Hong Kong Exchange's $36.6 billion takeover proposal.

The FTSE 100 was up 0.31% at the closing bell, as Royal Bank of Scotland Group plc advanced 5.56%. Germany's DAX rose 0.47% with Covestro AG being the best performer, growing 4.13%. The French CAC 40 increased 0.22% as ArcelorMittal SA jumped 3.84%.

The euro gained 0.09% against the dollar at 5:29 am ET to change hands for 1.10742, while the pound surged 0.97% to $1.24523 at the same time.
