Erdogan warns Turkey will act alone on Syria safe zone

Ankara is prepared to act alone on its southern border with Syria if the United States does not establish a "safe zone" in northeast Syria this month, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan (pictured) said, reiterating his earlier statements.

"Our preparations along our borders are complete," Erdogan stated after warning Washington was too slow in setting up a sufficiently large safe zone to push Syrian Kurdish YPG forces, which the Turkish government considers terrorists, away from the border.

The two countries agreed in August to form a safe zone on the Turkey-Syria border, recently forming a joint operations center and starting combined patrols.
