Walt Disney Company's sports video streaming service, ESPN+, announced on Monday it acquired the rights for the United States broadcasts of Germany's football Bundesliga from the next season until the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada.

The Bundesliga will move from Fox Broadcasting Company's sports network Fox Sports in the 2020/21 season, with the deal covering the German second division, the German Super Cup and relegation-promotion playoffs. There are currently 11 American players playing in Germany's top flight, more than in any other major European league.

Disney plans to expand the number of ESPN+ subscribers from the 2 million it had in February to between 8 million and 12 million by 2024.
