France nominates Atos CEO Breton for EU Commissioner

France's President Emmanuel Macron nominated on Thursday Atos CEO and former finance minister Thierry Breton (pictured) to be the next European commissioner for industry.

"He’s a man of action, who knows industrial issues inside out, and who, while knowing Brussels institutions, will not have a bureaucratic approach to European issues, which is important for the president," an Elysee Palace official stated.

Breton was picked after the European Parliament rejected Macron's initial nominee Sylvie Goulard. Paris has accused the European Parliament of creating a "major institutional crisis" with its decision not to approve the nomination of the former French defense minister for the Commission.
