German automotive corporation Daimler AG announced on Friday it is going to cut "thousands of jobs" worldwide by 2022, targeting to reduce the staff cost by around €1.4 billion. The workforce count in Germany for Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz AG, and Daimler Truck AG will remain unchanged by 2029 as it was agreed previously. According to information obtained by AFP, the job cuts figure may go up 10,000.

"Among other things, there will be offers to the workforce to reduce weekly working time. The company will extend expiring contracts for temporary workers in the administration very restrictively and will also be very restrictive in allowing 40-hour contracts for permanent employees," the company said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Daimler revealed its sustainable business strategy that aims to cut the cost in order to attain the required resources for conducting a CO2-neutral mobility policy. The company reportedly considered eliminating 1,100 management positions for the same purpose.
