EU regulator asks airlines to avoid flying over Iran

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) urged airlines on Saturday to stay clear of Iranian airspace, especially at altitutes lower than 25,000 feet.

EASA said in a statement: "This is a very dynamic situation and a new assessment will be made with the EU Commission and European Union Member States early next week."

Earlier in the day, Iran admitted to accidentally striking a Ukrainian International Airlines plane and killing all 176 people on board. Tehran promised to investigate and punish those responsible.
