German airline Lufthansa announced on Friday that it extended the suspension of flights to Tehran until March 28 after Ukraine Airline's plane was shot down near Iranian capital killing 176 people. Austrian Airlines, a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group, will halt its departures to Iran as well.

Previously, Lufthansa temporarily canceled its flight LH600/601 from Frankfurt to Tehran while it suspended all flights that were supposed to fly over Iran and Iraq. The move came amid the Middle East crisis following the assassination of Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani by the United States forces.
