Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will propose a year delay for the Olympics, according to local broadcaster NHK. Abe said he will suggest that the games should be postponed during the call with International Olympic Committee (IOC) president Thomas Bach.

Earlier today it is said that the Tokyo Olympic torch relay will start on Thursday as it was previously planned. However, a Japanese government official said there will be no torchbearers.

Yesterday the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) urged the International Olympic Committee (IOC) oo postpone the Summer Olympics over the coronavirus pandemic. Also, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Dick Pound commented earlier that the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will be delayed, likely by one year.
