Scholz: Consensus possible on Lufthansa bailout

Consensus on a €9 billion bailout between the German government and Lufthansa is possible, German Finance Minister Olaf Scholz said on Monday, speaking at the Frankfurt Financial Summit via videolink from Berlin.

As Lufthansa was "a very successful company before the crisis," he concluded that it is Germany’s "duty to make feasible that they will survive the situation of the COVID-19 pandemic." He went on to assert that the government is coming closer to a consensus with the airline’s management after a "very good discussion."

The German flagship carrier was hit hard throughout the coronavirus pandemic, and forced to make drastic cuts in its workforce. As of today, the company’s stocks are no longer part of the DAX stock index.
