The BMW Group announced on Monday that it is planning to significantly reduce CO2 emissions in its vehicles by 2030 in accordance with its newly-set sustainability and resource efficiency goals.

The full lifecycle plans include reducing CO2 emission by 80% per vehicle in production, by 20% per vehicle in the supply chain and by 40% per vehicle in the use phase by 2030. "This new strategic direction will be anchored in all divisions – from administration and purchasing to development and production, all the way to sales. We are taking sustainability to the next levels," CEO Oliver Zipse said.

BMW added it will from now on introduce fully electric vehicles in the BMW 7 Series, as well as in the BMW X1 and BMW 5 Series. The automaker noted it will have 25 electrified models on the roads by 2023 and pointed out that half of them will be fully electric.
