Puerto Rico partially halts primary voting

Monday, 10. August 2020 03:12

Officials in Puerto Rico announced primary elections had to be partially halted in some areas of the unincorporated US territory over an insufficient amount of ballots.

Giving her comments on the issue to The Associated Press, Governor Wanda Vazquez called for the resignation of the elections commission's president, lambasting the "disastrous" situation. "They made the people of Puerto Rico, not the candidates, believe that they were prepared [...] They lied," she said.

Hundreds of voters on the island were turned away from voting stations during Sunday's primaries despite wearing the necessary face covering and observing social distance with officials notifying them there were no ballots available, according to the media.
