Amazon orders 1,800 Mercedes-Benz e-vans

Amazon.com Inc. stated on Friday the company has ordered 1,800 electric vans from German carmaker Mercedes-Benz, in order to extend its European delivery fleet as part of plans to go carbon neutral within the next 20 years.

Amazon bought 1,200 eSprinter models and 600 eVitos, which are going to be deployed in Germany and the United Kingdom. This agreement represents the biggest order of electric vehicles for Mercedes-Benz to date. Commenting on the deal, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said that the contract is a part of the retailer's "journey to build the most sustainable transportation fleet in the world."

Following the announcement, stocks of Daimler AG gained 0.51% in Frankfurt to sell for €43.22 per share.
