EU sanctions proof foreign intel staged Navalny attack - Russian official

The European Parliament (EP) approving new sanctions on Russia is proof foreign intelligence services are behind the poisoning of Alexey Navalny, used as a ploy to suspend the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin (pictured) said on Friday.

"If such concepts as democracy and international law exist for the Western countries, they must take measures and hold those who initiate such decisions in the EP responsible," he urged.

Earlier this week, the EP passed a resolution calling for additional sanctions on Moscow over the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition leader Navalny. Russia previously slammed the claims made by the European Union and the United States, among others, it was responsible for the attack as a political tool against Kremlin.
