US markets end higher after seesaw session

Wall Street ended the trading day on Thursday in the green after a volatile session that saw major stock market indexes move from losses to gains on multiple occassions. During the day, data showed worse-than-expected figures in jobless claims, but a rise in new home sales. Rising coronavirus cases in Europe contributed to worries while a number of Federal Reserve officials expressed optimism over the economic recovery in the US.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished 0.20% higher as Goldman Sachs jumped 4.83%. The Nasdaq 100 rose 0.58% at the close, led by Illumina which surged 4.88%. Meanwhile, the S&P 500 was 0.30% higher, with Darden Restaurants soaring 8.12%.

The euro increased 0.07% to 1.16683 against the dollar at 4:02 pm ET.
