Global COVID-19 deaths surpass 1 million

The total number of people who died after contracting COVID-19 climbed over 1 million, according to data compiled from health authorities worldwide.

The largest number of fatalities was reported in the United States, where over 205,000 people died after being infected with the coronavirus. Meanwhile, Brazil registered over 141,000 deaths and India reported more than 94,000 fatalities.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the highest case-fatality rate was observed in Yemen at 28.9%, followed by Italy at 11.7%, Mexico at 10.5% and the United Kingdom at 9.9%. Despite having registered most cases and deaths, the COVID-19 fatality rate in the US stands at 2.9%.
