Spain orders Amazon to register as postal operator

Amazon.com needs to be registered as a postal operator in Spain and comply with regulations in the postal sector because it operates in the sector, Spain's competition watchdog CNMC said on Tuesday.

CNMC stressed that the fact that Amazon is an e-commerce business doesn't mean it cannot also be a postal service.

The company now has a month to file all the necessary paperwork in Spain to be registered at the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda. Additionally, Amazon is given 30 days to make sure any carriers that collaborate with it also follow postal regulation in Spain.
