American Airlines Group announced on Sunday it planned to reintroduce Boeing 737 MAX to its air travel service by the end of the year should the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) approve the move.

"We remain in contact with the FAA and Boeing on the certification process and we'll continue to update our plans based on when the aircraft is certified," the company's statement read.

American Airlines previously confirmed its plans to start training pilots on Boeing 737 MAX in November after the FAA issued the proposal for its return. The aircraft has been grounded since 2019 following two fatal crashes due to technical malfunction.
