Europe opens higher on positive vaccine, Brexit news

Major European stock markets started Tuesday's trading session in the green driven mainly by the news that Moderna Inc. applied for emergency use authorization of its coronavirus vaccine. In addition, positive statements made by several British and European Union officials regarding the possibility of a post-Brexit trade agreement helped boost investor optimism.

The FTSE 100 was flat at the opening bell, with Fresnillo plc rising 2.80%. The DAX increased 0.61%. MTU Aero Engines AG jumped 1.54%. The CAC 40 gained 0.43% as Alstom climbed 2.00%.

The euro grew 0.35% against the greenback at 8:59 am CET, changing hands for 1.19693. The pound advanced 0.40% to sell for 1.33821 dollars at the same time.
