Europe closes mixed, virus, Brexit in focus

European equities finished the session on Thursday mixed as investors kept an eye on coronavirus and Brexit developments.

Earlier, it was reported that significant progress has been made during Brexit negotiations in London, while some sources speculated a deal might be announced as early as Friday. Meanwhile, countries have been ramping up preparations for a coronavirus vaccination scheme.

The DAX fell 0.45% in Frankfurt as Covestro led the losses. The CAC 40 declined 0.15%; Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield was the weakest performer. The FTSE 100 gained 0.42% at the close with Rolls Royce Holdings surging over 14%.
