Europe closes higher amid Brexit deal hopes

Major European stock markets closed in the green on Wednesday as the trade agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom was reportedly likely to happen later today. On the coronavirus front, the UK revealed a new COVID-19 variant was detected among incoming travelers from South Africa.

At the end of the trading session, the DAX gained 1.26% as MTU Aero Engines grew by 4.63%. The closing bell found the FTSE 100 up by 0.66% having Lloyds Banking Group as its top performer after a jump of 7%. The CAC 40 closed higher by 1.12% as Airbus SE had the most gains and moved in the green by 4.56%.

The euro went up by 0.35% compared to the dollar to sell for 1.21995 at 5:30 pm CET and the British pound jumped 1.09% against the United States currency to go for 1.35083 at 5:30 pm CET.
