Europe starts higher with US politics in focus

Major European stock markets opened in the green on Wednesday as investors are monitoring the political events in the United States. According to the last information, Democratic Senate nominee Raphael Warnock secured the 49th Senate seat for the Democrats as he defeated GOP Senator from Georgia Kelly Loeffler in the state's 2020 Senate race. On the data front, traders are waiting for Statistisches Bundesamt Deutschland to report on the German consumer price index.

The FTSE 100 rose 0.81% at 9:00 am CET with Royal Dutch Shell jumping by 3.01%. The DAX climbed 0.26% at 9:02 am CET as Heidelbergcement AG went up by 2.57%. The CAC 40 increased by 0.65% at 9:01 am CET. Societe Generale was the best performer rising by 2.63%.

The euro gained 0.37% against the dollar to sell for 1.23382 at 8:57 am CET and the pound increased 0.22% compared to the US currency to go for 1.36561 a minute later.
