US markets retreat, Dow falls over 100 pts

United States stocks retreated into the negative territory on Tuesday with the Dow Jones falling over 100 points shortly after market open. Yesterday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order, authorizing a new set of sanctions against the Iranian regime, including the Islamic Republic's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and eight high-ranking Iranian military officials.

The tensions between the two country escalated after Iran shot down a US drone last week, claiming that the unmanned aircraft violated its airspace.

The Dow fell approximately 111 points or 0.42% at 10:24 am ET. Microsoft was the worst stock on the index and it was 1.88% in the red at 10:49 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.57% at 10:25 am ET, led by NetEase Inc. losses of 3.28%. The S&P 500 dropped 0.34% at 10:25 am ET. The worst performer was AbbVie Inc., which sank 14.83% at 10:34 am ET.

The euro was 0.06% lower compared to the dollar, changing hands for 1.1392 at 10:26 am ET.
