Europe closes higher after calming Trump's health news

Shares on major European markets closed with gains on Monday after calming news regarding the health of the United States President Donald Trump who got infected with the coronavirus. His private doctor Sean Conley said that the president could be released from the hospital soon. On the data front, Eurostat reported that the seasonally adjusted volume of goods sold in retail in the Eurozone (EA19) was 4.4% higher in August in comparison to July.

The DAX closed 1.15% in the green with Bayer AG rising by 4.25%. The CAC 40 jumped 0.89% at the end of trading in Paris as Orange grew by 3.24%. The FTSE 100 climbed 0.79%. Rolls-Royce Holdings Plc was the best performer rising by 7.88%.

The euro was up 0.58% against the dollar at 5:30 pm CET, buying 1.17836. At the same time, the pound rose by 0.27% versus the greenback to go for 1.29702.
