Apple Inc. is aiming to produce 2.5 million MacBooks by February using its in-house central processing units (CPU), Nikkei reported on Thursday. Sources claimed the tech giant wants to "rapidly cut its reliance on Intel chips."

The company will also use its own processors in new MacBook models, which will be unveiled in the second quarter of next year, the report said. Apple is allegedly seeking to completely stop using Intel Corp.'s CPUs within two years.
