Europe closes mixed on vaccine, Brexit news

Major stock indexes in Europe finished trading on Wednesday mostly above the flatline with news regarding the coronavirus vaccines lifting investor optimism. Additionally, Polish President Andrzej Duda hinted that an agreement on the European Union's budget may be close. Meanwhile, however, trade talks between Brussels and London remained deadlocked, prompting fears of a no-deal Brexit.

The FTSE 100 was up 0.08% at the closing bell as Just Eat Takeaway.com N.V. climbed 7.09%. The DAX grew 0.47% at the same time. Delivery Hero SE jumped 6.70%. The CAC 40 decreased 0.25% with STMicroelectronics plunging 11.57%.

The euro fell 0.22% against the greenback at 5:29 pm CET to change hands for 1.20804. The pound gained 0.17% to sell for 1.33790 dollars.
