Europe rises at close on upbeat data

Shares on major European stock markets rose at the closing bell on Tuesday after economic data hinted the recovery from the coronavirus crisis could be faster than expected. Investor confidence in the Eurozone strengthened in February, a sentix report showed, while annual house price growth in the United Kingdom advanced by 0.5 percentage points to 6.9% in the same month.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is reportedly pushing for lifting some anti-pandemic curbs starting next week as she is set to hold talks with federal state officials on Wednesday.

The DAX in Frankfurt added 0.25% at the end of the session led by Daimler's climb of more than 2%. The CAC 40 grew 0.35% as ArcelorMittal gained almost 3%, and the FTSE 100 closed 0.58% higher with Pershing Square Holdings jumping nearly 4%. The euro went up by 0.24% to trade for $1.20730 at 5:28 pm CET, while the pound rose 0.24% against the dollar as well, changing hands at 1.39544 a minute later.
