Conte calls for united European Union

The European Union must "set a new route with more solidarity, more inclusion, more fairness and ultimately more democracy" if Europe is "to remain a common future," Italian Prime Minister Guiseppe Conte told the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

The Italian PM praised the EU27 conduct during the Brexit negotiations with the United Kingdom, stating the memeber states "have shown they are able to act on the basis of unity and solidarity to protect the 60 years of European integration without giving into a punitive approach to a member of the European family who no longer intends to be part of that family."

Recently, European Union Chief Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier reiterated the bloc's decision not to renegotiaite the withdrawal agreement with London.
