Britain's government can be "the most pro-business, hi-tech and greenest in Europe," Tory leadership candidate Jeremy Hunt told the audience at the first of 16 hustings in Birmingham. Speaking on Saturday, he claimed the United Kingdom "could be the world's next Silicon Valley" and pointed to the potential in the West Midlands. The outgoing secretary of state for foreign and Commonwealth affairs said he would "never provoke a general election" before Brexit, saying it could "kill" the Conservative Party.

Hunt highlighted the "increasing aggression from countries like Russia." Hunt claimed the UK wouldn't leave the European Union at all if Jeremy Corbyn, leader of the Labour Party, becomes prime minister. He announced the intention to renew the alliance with the Democratic Unionist Party.
