Wall Street opens lower amid rising trade tensions

United States stock markets opened lower with the investors focused on the rising trade tensions between Washington and Beijing. China's Foreign Ministry warned the US against interfering in its internal affairs and in the affairs of its Special Administrative Region Hong Kong. The Goldman Sachs Group Inc. called the charges Malaysia filed against 17 of its current and former executives "misdirected." On data, the country's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported the producer prices index increased 0.2% in July, while Baker Hughes was set to release its weekly report on active oil rigs later during the day.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was 0.16% lower at 9:30 am ET, as International Business Machines Corp fell 1.31%. The Nasdaq 100 slipped 0.52% while the S&P 500 dropped 0.26%. Activision Blizzard Inc. was the worst performer on both indexes, losing 3.49% after yesterdays earnings.

The euro was up 0.17% against the dollar to 1.11995 at 9:29 am ET, while the pound tumbled 0.49% to $1.20744.
