Libra announces board members in Geneva

Libra Association held its inaugural meeting in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday and introduced new board members, council members and executives, with over 20 company representatives attending the meeting.

Libra appointed a board of directors including Matthew Davie (Kiva Microfunds); Patrick Ellis (PayU); Katie Haun (Andreessen Horowitz); David Marcus (Calibra, Inc.); and Wences Casares (Xapo Holdings Limited). Meanwhile, Bertrand Perez has been named chief operating officer and interim managing director. Dante Disparte became new head of policy and communications, and Kurt Hemecker will act as the new head of business development.

Earlier, multiple payment firms including PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, Stipe, and Mercado Pago left the project just days before the meeting. Dutch company PayU remains the only payment processor involved in Libra Association. Engineering company and the owner of the travel search site Booking.com, Booking Holdings Inc pulled out of council as well.
