The CEO of Amazon.com Inc. and the founder of aerospace manufacturer Blue Origin LLC, Jeff Bezos, announced on Tuesday he joined forces with three aerospace companies to bid on a NASA contract for Moon lander.

Bezos called the partnership with Lockheed Martin, Draper Laboratory and Northrop Grumman "a national team for a national priority." Speaking at the 70th International Astronautical Congress in Washington, Bezos said "this is the kind of thing that is so ambitious, it needs to be done with partners," and added that "this is the only way to get back to the Moon fast."

In March this year, United States Vice-President Mike Pence confirmed that the Washington administration plans to send astronauts to the Moon by 2024.
