Asian markets drop as US-China tensions continue

Major stock market indexes in the Asia-Pacific fell on Friday as investors' worries on trade were rising amid Beijing's and Washington's spat over Hong Kong. Meanwhile, Japanese data on unemployment, industrial production and consumer confidence was released during the trading day.

The Nikkei 225 closed 0.49% lower while the S&P/ASX 200 finished 0.26% down.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng dropped 2.19% at 7:11 am CET as protests continued and local police decided to unblock the PolyU campus. The Shanghai Composite decreased 0.85% at 7:10 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.93% at 7:12 am CET. South Korean Kospi declined 1.42% at 7:13 am CET after North Korea confirmed its latest missile launches.

The dollar was flat compared to the yen, losing 0.03% to go for 109.4785 at 7:14 am CET.
