The United States is set to withdraw over 4,000 of its troops from Afghanistan next week, NBC News reported citing three former and current officials.

According to the sources, between 8,000 and 9,000 American soldiers will remain in the central Asian country following the pullout.

Earlier this month, the US State Department announced Washington will restart talks with the Taliban and noted its Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad will travel to Kabul and Doha for the negotiations.
