Pound declines after retail sales disappoint

The British pound declined against other major currencies on Friday following the release of worse-than-expected retail sales figures.

The UK Office for National Statistics said that the quantity of goods bought in retail sales in December fell by 0.6%, despite analysts expecting an increase.

Sterling lost 0.21% against the dollar to sell for 1.30492 at 11:47 am CET and declined 0.22% compared to the yen to go for 143.6985 at 11:49 am CET. The euro added 0.09% against the pound to change hands for 0.85248 at the same time.
