The United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed it accepted 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine sulfate donated by Novartis’ Sandoz as possible treatments for the coronavirus.

Last week, Novartis CEO Vasant Narasimhan cast doubt whether anti-malaria drugs could be an effective treatment for the coronavirus.

"With hydroxychloroquine, what we know is in pre-clinical studies, the drug is quite active against the coronavirus but these are, of course, not in human beings - not in patients," he said.
