Wall Street falls as Trump announces China statement

Major stock market indexes in New York dropped in the last hours of trading after trading higher earlier as United States President Donald Trump announced he would be holding a press conference on China on Friday and was preparing to sign a new executive order on social media amid his row with Twitter. Earlier in the day, data showed that over 40 million people filed jobless claim in the US in the last 10 weeks.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.58% or 147 points at the end of the day, with Goldman Sachs Group losing 4.03%. The Nasdaq 100 lost 0.27% as Marriott International fell 6.45%. The S&P 500 finished 0.21% lower as HP Inc plunged 12.15%.

The euro gained 0.62% against the dollar to go for 1.10738 at 4:02 pm ET.
