Wall Street opens lower with coronavirus in focus

Major stock markets in the United States opened lower on Tuesday as the coronavirus pandemic remains in the focus of public attention. Novavax and Regeneron were both granted funds for their vaccine researches, while Corvus Pharmaceuticals said it initiated a Phase 1 trial of its novel immunotherapy for the disease. The traders are also awaiting Fed Vice-Chair Randal Quarles' speech on economic recovery.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average traded 0.72% lower at the opening bell as Boeing Co lost 1.96%. The Nasdaq 100 fell by 0.09% with Expedia Group decreasing by 2.53%. The S&P 500 went down by 0.54% as United Airlines Holdings declined by 5.78%.

The euro stood flat against the dollar to sell for $1.13067 at 9:27 am ET.
