Wall Street opens higher on vaccine optimism

Stocks on Wall Street jumped at the start of the trading day on Wednesday as optimism increased after news of good trial results from AstraZeneca and Oxford University on their COVID-19 vaccine. A trend of recovery was also seen in economic data as industrial production in the United States rose by 5.4% in June.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained over 350 points and increased by 1.36% at 9:30 am ET, with Goldman Sachs rising 4.11% at 9:33 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was up 0.46% at the 9:30 am ET as travel stocks led the gains and Expedia Group jumped 6.41% at 9:34 am ET. The S&P 500 rose 1.05% in the first minute on trading. Gap Inc was the strongest stock in the index as it surged 8.70% at 9:32 am ET.

The euro was 0.45% higher compared to the dollar as it went for 1.14514 at 9 :33 am ET.
