Liam Fox (pictured), Britain's candidate for the director general of the World Trade Organization (WTO), claimed on Friday he would act impartially in relation to the trade disputes brought in front of the organization.

"We are not going to be involved in taking sides in bilateral trade disputes," Fox said, asserting that the WTO's "role is the maintenance on the rules that are already existing."

Fox, who is one of the eight possible candidates to replace outgoing Robert Azevedo, added that a deal between the European Union and the United Kingdom would represent a "good sign for the global economy."
