US opens higher on optimistic data, earnings

Major stock market indexes in the United States traded higher at the start of the session on Tuesday after the Census Bureau revealed that the housing starts in the country beat the estimates and surged 22.6% in July, compared to the month before.

Meanwhile, on the business front, Home Depot and Walmart recorded quarterly revenues that topped the figures predicted earlier, while a report claimed that Amazon.com plans to expand both its workforce and its offices.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.11% at the open, with American Express advancing 0.75% at 9:42 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 kicked off 0.42% higher as JD.com soared 5.70% at 9:31 am ET. The S&P 500 advanced 0.20% at the start of the session with Oracle Corp surging 3.67% at 9:41 am ET. Euro rose 0.73% versus the dollar, selling for $1.19574 at 9:34 am ET.
