Wall Street surges at close on virus vaccine progress

Major stock markets in the United States jumped at the close on Monday, pushed by the news that another American company, Novavax, has made progress in its COVID-19 vaccine trials.

In business news, ByteDance filed a lawsuit against the US government in an attempt to block the Trump administration's ban on its video-sharing app TikTok. Electric car maker Tesla also had a turbulent session, with its stocks hovering around the level of $2,000 per share.

The Dow surged 1.36% or 378 points at the closing bell, as Boeing soared 6.43%. The Nasdaq 100 advanced 0.61% to end the session, with Expedia Group climbing 4.79%. The S&P 500 finished by rising 1.01%. American Airlines led the gains by jumping 10.53%. The Nasdaq and the S&P have both reached new record-highs. The euro traded 0.05% lower against the dollar to sell for $1.17894 at 4:01 pm ET.
