US opens higher with elections in focus

Major stock markets in the United States opened higher on Monday as the forthcoming elections take the center of public attention. According to the polls, the presidential race between Donald Trump and Joe Biden will be a narrow one, especially in the swing states. Earlier, President Trump said he might challenge the results of the elections as he doubted the delayed ballot counting. Meanwhile, traders are also waiting for the latest monthly updates on the country's manufacturing and construction spending, as well as on the quarterly earnings of Mondelez and PayPal.

The Dow Jones jumped 1.50% or 396 points at the opening as Honeywell International Inc. advanced by 2.43%. The Nasdaq 100 went up by 0.92%, with CDW Corporation growing by 3.78%. The S&P 500 rose by 1.19% as Nielsen Holdings PLC gained 7.94%.

The euro lost 0.14% to the dollar to exchange hands for $1.16308 at 9:27 am ET. At the same time, the pound sterling declined by 0.27% against the greenback to sell for $1.29157.
