US opens mixed with vaccine news in focus

Stock indexes in the United States opened the trading session mixed on Wednesday after the final analysis of the coronavirus vaccine candidate jointly developed by Pfizer Inc. and BioNTech SE showed that it was 95% efficient in preventing the virus. On the economic data front, the US Census Bureau reported that housing starts in the country rose by 4.9% in October. In business news, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) revealed it lifted the flight ban on troubled Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average index increased by 0.30% at the open, with Boeing rising the most, 4.63%, at 9:32 am ET. The Nasdaq 100 was down 0.08% in the first minute of trading as Pinduoduo led the losses, declining by 2.18% at 9:32 am ET. The S&P 500 was flat as the markets opened with TechnipFMC advancing 5.58% at 9:32 am ET.

The euro was flat compared to the dollar, trading at 1.18656 at 9:29 am ET.
