Apple Inc. plans to introduce a new subscription podcast service that would charge its users to listen to uploads, the Information reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter.

The move could pose a threat to the industry's leaders like Spotify and Amazon, as it could get podcast creators to "enter [Apple's] orbit" on a promise of making more money, the report read.

Apple's shares remained 0.23% below the flatline at 12:32 am ET. Spotify's stocks plunged 6.6% at the same time.
