South Korea's Defense Minister Suh Wook (pictured) and United States Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin agreed to increase efforts to strengthen the defense alliance between the two countries, the Asian country's defense ministry stated.

The two defense chiefs asserted that the ties between Washington and Seoul are "more important than ever" and pledged to "openly communicate on relevant issues."

Austin was granted permission to lead the Pentagon after both houses of the US Congress gave him a green light despite the fact that he has been a civilian for less than 7 years since his last day of active military duty.
