Turkey's Health Minister Fahrettin Koca revealed on Sunday that his country would receive an additional 6.5 million doses of the vaccine developed by China's Sinovac Biotech Ltd. on January 25.

"The first part (6.5 million doses) of the second shipment of inactivated vaccines, which is 10 million doses, will be in our country on Monday morning. In accordance with the procurement plan, the deliveries will reach us in a way that the vaccine program will continue without interruption," Koca said in a Twitter post.

The mass vaccination campaign in Turkey has started on January 14, after the first batch of 3 million Sinovac's vaccines reached the country. According to Koca, more than 1.23 million people have been inoculated so far. To boost the public confidence in the shot, both Koca and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan were among the first to receive it.
