The United Kingdom's Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab criticized on Thursday China's decision to ban BBC [British Broadcasting Corporation] World News from broadcasting in the Asian country.

Raab took to Twitter to describe China's move as "unacceptable curtailing of media freedom," and underline that Beijing "has some of the most severe restrictions on media ... freedoms across the globe."

"This latest step will only damage China’s reputation in the eyes of the world," Raab concluded. Beijing previously accused BBC of "slander" in its coverage of the way Beijing treats the Muslim Uyghur minority.
