Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced that he spoke with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and the two agreed their teams would work through the issues regarding the social media giant's decision to block news content in Australia.

"Today I had a further conversation with Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. We talked through their remaining issues & agreed our respective teams would work through them immediately. We’ll talk again over the weekend. I reiterated Australia remains committed to implementing the code," the treasurer said.

Earlier, Frydenberg slammed Facebook's decision to block Australian users from viewing and sharing news, arguing the move was "wrong" and "unnecessary."
