The North Dakota House of Representatives approved legislation that would make it illegal for the government to impose a mask mandate in the state.

The bill, forwarded to the state Senate with a 50-44 vote, prohibits state and local officials, as well as schools and businesses from mandating face coverings.

It comes three months after Governor Doug Burgum imposed a statewide mask mandate in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.
